Purpose Rooted in Faith

After watching the movie Sarah’s Oil, I found myself deeply reflecting on my own journey as a businesswoman overcoming adversity and challenges. I recognized many parallels between myself and Sarah Rector. Much like Sarah, who navigated formidable obstacles, I too have remained rooted in faith while pursuing my purpose.

The Power of Faith and Purpose

The story of Sarah Rector is one of remarkable resilience, perseverance, determination, and bravery. Trusting God’s calling, she became one of the first Black female millionaires at just 11 years old. Her journey from a young girl on a farm in Taft, Oklahoma, to a trailblazing entrepreneur inspires me to trust in God’s plan for my life and remain steadfast in my purpose.

Stepping Into the Unknown: Faith as My Guide

In my own career, after over 20 years of working in education, I found myself unexpectedly called to the world of entrepreneurship. This new journey brought many challenges-whether it was breaking into unfamiliar territory or confronting my own moments of self-doubt. However, like Sarah, I have faced these struggles by leaning firmly on my faith and listening closely to that still, small voice. One of my favorite Bible verses, “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7), became a daily reminder for me, guiding each step as I moved from the familiar field of education into the uncertainties of entrepreneurship. In a season of transition, I remained grounded in faith, and I continued to walk in purpose, even when the road ahead was unclear.

Empowering Excellence: Bridging a Passion for Education and Leadership

Through this journey, I have found that combining my passion as an educator with consulting and leadership development has enabled me to drive meaningful transformation for both students and educational leaders. By designing tailored workshops, offering mentorship, and providing impactful training, I have partnered with educators to promote best practices that prioritize student engagement and achievement. My purpose centers on empowering students while equipping educators with the effective tools and strategies needed to nurture their growth. I strive to inspire educational leaders to cultivate environments where student voices are honored, inclusive decision-making is celebrated, and every member of the school community- students and employees- feels valued and respected. This type of approach not only advances student outcomes and success, but also fosters a sustainable culture of excellence.

Embracing Faith and Purpose: Lessons Learned Along My Journey

The entrepreneurial journeys of Sarah Rector and myself underscore a fundamental lesson: true success is rooted in resilience, faith, and a deep sense of purpose. By leaping boldly into the unknown and meeting each new challenge with faith and prayer, we can transform obstacles into opportunities and adversity into growth. My own transition from education to entrepreneurship continually reminds me that purpose-driven work has the power to create a lasting impact. Rooted in a calling higher than myself, every step forward is an act of courage that not only shapes my own path but also uplifts those around me and empowers communities.

Advice for Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurs:

  • Trusting in God’s plan, even when the path is unclear.

  • Resilience grows when we embrace change and step out on faith.

  • Purpose and Passion can be combined to serve others, fostering a deeper commitment and broader impact.

  • Lean into faith daily-let it lead in moments of doubt.

  • Stay rooted in your purpose and be open to pivoting or pursuing new paths that align with your calling.

  • Build your community, seek mentorship, and be a mentor.

  • Embrace each step of the journey, knowing you are part of something greater, fueled by your faith and perseverance.

I’d like to leave you with two quotes from the movie Sarah’s Oil that have resonated deeply with me: “Everything in life has value; moral value, spiritual value, and economic value. And, “God gave you gifts; the only sin is not to use them.
