The Path to Your Purpose is Not Always Straight

My name is Myra Bowling. I have a background in public health, starting with my Bachelor of Science in French and International Health and continuing to my Master of Public Health degree with a focus on health policy. Throughout my educational journey, especially during my grad program, I became increasingly interested in what impacts the quality of care. Many of my courses taught me that the way in which healthcare providers are paid has a direct impact on the quality of care. There are so many models a provider can be paid by; however, not all lead to good outcomes for the patient. This was an area of health policy that I knew I was going to become a leader in and make a difference.

Initially, my plan after graduation was to work for a government agency directly influencing payment models or reporting on how they could be improved. This, however, was not the direct route I was meant to take. It can be frustrating not to get where you want to be immediately in life, but it does not mean you should give up. It only means to work harder, enjoy the journey, and learn from all of your experiences that you may not have expected to get. This is what led me to start my business, The Pay Impact.

The Pay Impact is a health consulting company and blog. I founded this company in September of 2025. It is meant for patients and providers to understand how emerging payment models and policies are impacting their access and outcomes, or how they must practice medicine. These are complex topics that are not usually broken down for a general audience to understand. I wanted my audience to include more than just a policy expert because it is important for patients to have an understanding of this area of healthcare, along with providers who may want to become part of a new payment model.

While The Pay Impact is still very new, I am excited to watch it grow as a leading voice in provider payment policy. Had I not been put on this path, I would not have made the same connections or had the same experiences, and potentially not even started my company (or at least not so soon). Remember to enjoy your journey and be patient because everything that is meant for you will be for you.
