Changes

Changes.

Change is all around us.

Constant and always moving.

How do you interact with change?

Do you react or respond?

What’s the difference?

Intent.

Responding takes consideration.

Reacting takes instinct.

Reflex.

You don’t respond to reflexes.

Responding takes time.

Thought.

Someone once told me, “To change what is around you, you have to change what’s within you.” If you want new results, you can’t keep using the same old methods. Change your method, and the outcome will change. You have to be uncomfortable before you can be comfortable. Moreover, change is a good thing if you allow it. Take challenges and changes and grow from them. Even if you didn’t get it the first time, that’s okay.

What’s stopping you from trying again?

Keep trying.

You will get it right at some point.

There is a lesson in everything, believe me. I failed a class in nursing school, and that set me back. It changed the “perfect plan” I had for college and my life after. I thought it was the end of the world, yet it changed me. Through that shift in my plan, I was able to change things for myself and others. Through my failure, I realized that I wasn’t the best student. The failure quickly became a catalyst for me to do better.

I found a way to support my friends through a class that was very difficult. With my support, my friends were able to focus on passing their other courses, knowing that I wouldn’t let them fail. Today, the study guides I created for that class helped other students as well. These guides allowed me to aid students in the semesters below me to pass their tests. I also gave them advice for their upcoming semesters in college. This was the advice I needed when I was in their position.

My friends also helped me as we progressed through school. I thought I was behind, but I was exactly where I needed to be. I made great friends in the new cohort. I experienced so many things in my “delay” that I value so much now. I was able to do some much-needed work on myself in the extra time I was given after failing my class. I tell people that if I didn’t fail that class when I did, I would have failed out of the nursing program later. Because I failed, I passed and graduated from nursing school. Now, I am continuing in my nursing journey, and so are many others. Change made me a better student, brother, friend, partner, and person.

Changes.

Change is all around us,

and so is opportunity.

The only difference between “change” and “chance” is how you “c” it.

So,

Take a chance,

And see how you’ll change.
